A Memorable Boodles 2013...The Final Day

A memorable Boodles 2013 served up the tournament’s trademark mix of lighthearted japes on court and spectacular grass-court tennis. The final day was no exception, with Viktor Troicki and Robin Haase showing plenty of skill and verve in The Boodles Championships match.

Troicki won the match 7-5, 6-4 and was awarded The Boodles trophy at the end of the one-off exhibition match which is a traditional fixture of the final day of the tournament.

“I’ve played this event a couple of times already and I really enjoy it. It’s great preparation for Wimbledon. It’s also a lot of fun and a great facility,” said Troicki. “This was the perfect warm-up for my first round match at Wimbledon.”

Despite losing the match, it was a happy return to The Boodles for Haase, who said he had enjoyed his last competitive outing before Wimbledon starts on Monday. “It’s always nice to come here. Only the top guys in world play here,” said Haase.

“We were joking around a few times but we both wanted to win, so I think the points were actually pretty good. It was nice to play another match on grass here. It’s good to have a few matches under your belt on grass. Wimbledon is the biggest tournament and the most famous tournament in the world, so you come here and try to get as much confidence as you can.”

Argentine Horacio Zeballos appeared to relish the relaxed atmosphere of The Boodles, looking comfortable on the grass in beating Thiemo De Bakker 7-5, 6-4 in Saturday’s second singles match. Both the day and the tournament were rounded off by an entertaining doubles match which saw Great Britain’s Jamie Delgado and American James Cerrentani beat Australian, Canadian pairing Raneez Junaid and Adil Shamasdin 10-5 in a first-to-ten-games shoot-out.
